1,583g Carbon. Intermediate-modulus fibre for toughness and impact resistance, high-modulus fibre where stiffness and low weight matter most. Hookless tubeless ready. Boost thru-axle standard. No system weight limit. Race-grade spec at a price that makes carbon accessible to riders who ride hard and spend carefully. That is the Concept Speed calculation.

You already know what heavy stock wheels feel like on a climb. That dull, dragging resistance when you stand on the pedals and the bike just… lags. These wheels fix that. Rotational weight is the weight that fights you the hardest, and at 720g front and 863g rear, there is very little of it here. First climb out of the saddle, you feel it. The bike snaps forward. It responds to you.

The hookless carbon rim runs tubeless only, which means lower pressures, more traction, and a tyre that moulds to the trail instead of bouncing off it. The 30mm internal width gives your tyre the support it needs to corner properly at those pressures. Maximum 3 bar (44 psi), recommended 2.3 to 2.6-inch tyre. Everything works together because it was thought through together.

The Concept Speed 6-bolt disc hub runs on TPI sealed cartridge bearings and a 36-tooth ratchet ring with 10-degree engagement. 36 teeth, 36 engagement points. The moment you push, the wheel moves. The freehub body is swappable across SRAM XD, Shimano Microspline, and HG.

Pillar 1415 double butted spokes, 16mm black brass nipples. Not aluminium, brass. Brass holds tension better over time, trues more easily, and resists corrosion in a way that makes this wheelset genuinely low-maintenance across seasons, not just impressive on unboxing day. Two spare spokes with nipples and washers are in the box.

Five-year manufacturer warranty. Three-year crash replacement at 50% of the current retail price. Register within 30 days to unlock The Trust Guarantee. The support behind this wheelset matches the spec. You are not buying blind.

5 Reasons Riders Switch to the Concept Speed Carbon XC Race Wheelset

  1. Race-level weight at a price that makes the alternatives hard to justify

At 1,583g, these wheels compete directly with carbon wheelsets sitting well above this price point. What you get here is a multi-grade carbon layup, brass nipples, no system weight limit, and a 3-year crash replacement window. The spec is real. The price reflects a deliberate decision to remove the brand premium, not to cut corners on materials or engineering.

  1. Tubeless at lower pressure changes how the trail feels under you

Pressure is everything in XC. Hookless tubeless lets you run lower without the pinch flat risk of a hooked rim with an inner tube. The trail feels different, roots that used to bounce you now compress under the tyre. Loose corners that used to push the front wheel now grip. You carry more speed through technical sections not because you got faster, but because the wheel is working with the trail instead of against it. The 30mm internal width is what makes this possible at the tyre widths XC racers actually use.

  1. Boost axles and sealed bearings keep the wheel tracking true under hard efforts

15x110mm front, 12x148mm rear. Boost spacing exists because narrow axles flex under hard cornering and braking loads, and flex is speed you are not converting into forward motion. The wider Boost stance stiffens the whole wheel interface. Pair that with TPI sealed cartridge bearings, 6902×2 front, 15267×4 rear, and you have a hub platform that spins smoothly and stays precise from race day to training day and back. ERD is 592.5mm, maximum spoke tension 150 kgf, recommended 110 to 130 kgf. The numbers are there if your wheel builder wants them.

  1. Brass nipples over aluminium: the detail that keeps your wheels race-ready for longer

Most wheelsets at this price use aluminium nipples. Aluminium corrodes, seizes, and strips. When it is time to true the wheel six months into the season, aluminium nipples that have been through mud, rain, and sweat become a problem. Brass does not do this. It stays workable. Your wheel stays true. This is a small detail that has a large impact on what the wheelset actually costs you over a two or three year race career, less time in the workshop, less money on rebuilds.

  1. No system weight limit, 5-year warranty, and spare spokes in the box

No system weight limit means this wheelset is for any rider. Whether you are 65kg or 100kg, the carbon upgrade is available to you without restriction. The 5-year manufacturer warranty, 3-year Crash Replacement Warranty at 50% of the current retail price, and The Trust Guarantee (register within 30 days of purchase at conceptspeed.co.za/register) back up the performance claims with real post-purchase support. Two spare spokes and nipples are in the box.
