BPT 2.0

celebrating 20 years

Bicycle Power Trading (BPT) was founded in 2004 by Frank Soll, a former triathlete and ABSA Cape Epic category winner. Frank pioneered power-based training in South Africa, establishing BPT to bring innovative training techniques and equipment to cyclists.

A New Era of Leadership

In 2009, Frank relocated to Australia, handing over leadership to Jon Heeger, Mike Robinson, and Dave Brown. Despite the transition, Frank continued to provide inspiration and support from abroad. By 2019, Dave Brown, equipped with over a decade of experience in the company, became the sole owner of BPT, steering its growth and success.

Our Team and Expansion

Under Dave’s leadership, BPT has grown into a robust team, offering in-house marketing, accounting, technical support, and sales. Our team serves South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique, and Botswana, united by a passion for cycling and fitness.

20 Years of Milestones

Revolutionising Indoor Cycling (2004–2010)

From the beginning, BPT made a bold entrance into the cycling industry by transforming how South Africans train. We introduced CycleOps Phantom cycles to over 15 indoor training studios across the country, including Cadence Cycling Studios. These studios were among the first to bring structured and data-driven training to cyclists, making indoor cycling a critical part of athletes’ routines.

Our innovation extended beyond physical studios when we partnered with the Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge, South Africa’s iconic cycling event. Through this collaboration, we brought the event to life in a virtual setting, allowing Telkom staff to experience the challenge’s actual route via preloaded tablets. This initiative combined fitness with cutting-edge technology, solidifying BPT’s reputation as a pioneer in virtual cycling experiences.

Innovative Partnerships with Retail (2018)

In 2018, BPT broke new ground by collaborating with Dion Wired, a major retail group in South Africa. We introduced the CycleOps Indoor Trainer range to their stores, making advanced indoor cycling equipment accessible to more households. This partnership marked a shift toward democratising cycling technology, aligning with our vision of empowering cyclists at all levels.

This milestone not only showcased our ability to connect with larger audiences but also set the stage for future collaborations that bring specialist cycling products to mainstream markets.

Global Recognition for Excellence (2021)

BPT reached an international pinnacle in 2021 when we were recognised as the largest international mountain bike power meter distributor for power2max. This achievement highlighted our leadership in cycling technology and reinforced our position as a go-to provider for athletes seeking top-tier performance equipment.

Power meters are critical tools for competitive cyclists, offering unparalleled insights into training and performance. By excelling in this category, we demonstrate our commitment to delivering cutting-edge technology that meets the evolving needs of the cycling community.

Expanding Premium Offerings with Muc-Off (2022)

In 2022, BPT expanded its portfolio to include the full range of Muc-Off products, bringing world-class cycling care solutions to Southern Africa. Known for their premium quality and innovation, Muc-Off products help cyclists maintain their gear and maximise performance. This partnership enhanced our reputation as a comprehensive provider of cycling solutions, from training equipment to maintenance products.

By introducing Muc-Off, we bridged the gap between elite performance and everyday cycling care, ensuring that cyclists of all levels have access to the best tools and products available.

Today, BPT represents over 13 internationally acclaimed brands

We’re proud to work with some of the most trusted names in the cycling industry, from cutting-edge technology providers like Magene to essential care brands like Muc-Off. Our curated selection of brands ensures quality and variety for every type of rider.
